Grappling in mma is arguably the most effective range of combat when it comes to dominating all types of opponents. But what do you think you should train more in your mma training workouts – wrestling or Brazilian Jujitsu?

Any hardcore UFC fan will remember the days of Royce Gracie when he and the Gracie family set out to show the world the power of BJJ, but as the sport evolved more and more wrestlers began to dominate, such as Randy Couture, Matt Hues, and GSP (even though he never wreslted prior to competing in the UFC).

But is one better then other? Check out this interesting article I found below, and leave a comment about what you think.

Which is the Most Effective Style For MMA – Wrestling Or BJJ?: “There is no denying that the two most effective and dominating styles in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) today are wrestling and Brazilian jiujitsu (BJJ). As a combat sports consultant and a strength coach for mixed martial artists, I often have to create the training camp schedule and thus decide how the chronological currency of 8, 12, or 16 weeks should be consumed.”

    First off Love the pic!
I love to wrestle and I am just now learning BJJ as I am training at a freestyle camp right now. Boy will it help once I can get my black belt.

Glad you like the pic Shaun, haha. That’s great you started off wrestling, you’ll have a good base and pick up on BJJ pretty quick. Let me know when you get that black belt!

    It is doubtful.

  4. When I can’t train I watch BJJ videos

    Hi All,

I think either technique is good in a fight, there are advantages and disadvantages of both, of course.

I think what’s more important, regardless of what style you train in, from wrestling to boxing, is to use unconventional workouts.

I found some in your related topics->

Some of my favorite equipment includes grappling dummies and heavy bags that are shaped differently, like a TEARDROP BAG, or an UPPERCUT BAG.

Also look to use Agility and Plyometric equipment, such as UNDULATION ROPES, SLED AND HARNESS or the ABC TRAINING LADDER.

    Good luck!
