Hey Wiggy, it's an honor to have you post on my blog, thanks for the comment! I'm a big fan of your stuff, and your workout programs are definitely top notch, I've learned a lot from them and still use your basic programs every few months when I'm not experimenting with other stuff.

You're totally right, both kinds of football require different types of conditioning and work capacity, where American football has a bigger need for anaerobic and quick and explosive movements (without much need for endurance), and soccer requires anaerobic conditioning as well but with a much more emphasis on aerobic. Both however, pale in comparison to the degree of work capacity and conditioning that MMA fighters need, where a more well rounded strength and conditioning capacity is much more crucial.

Thanks again for great input Wiggy!

Football (neither kind) does not require the same physical elements / conditioning qualities that MMA does. American football, while it has a great need for a work capacity doesn't require the same aerobic needs that MMA does, as the average play is around the 4-5 second mark. If we're talking 'football' as the rest of the world calls it (what Americans call 'soccer'), then it doesn't have near the same requirements for strength/power (esp in the upper body and/or pulling motions) as MMA.

Very true, though football players require a much different type of strength and conditioning then MMA fighters, as football players rest much longer and more often with much shorter periods of physical exertion (usually a play lasts about 10 or so seconds). It's more beneficial for football players to have size and strength then mma fighters too. Thanks for comment!
