But Why Should You Listen To Me, Anyway?
There are plenty of "posers" out there who will tell you that THEY know what they're talking about when it comes to MMA workouts. But can they really walk the walk?I've been studying weight training, nutrition, and physical fitness for over 10 years, with 7 years spent training in Brazilian jujitsu, wrestling, boxing, and Muy Thai kickboxing.

Currently, I am training MMA under professional MMA fighter Raul Castillo, and always extending my learning and education on MMA strength and conditioning to train professional fighters and athletes. Finally, I'm the author of a top-selling bodybuilding eBook, How to Gain Weight and Build Muscle for Hardgainers.
Each MMA workout program here is not only thoroughly reviewed, but was actually used by myself and others. You can trust my input since I’m a third party member looking only to promote the best of the best when it comes to MMA strength training and MMA conditioning workouts.

Why You Need a MMA Specific Strength and Conditioning Program

Mixed martial arts requires a very different and unique type of conditioning compared to any other sport. Most sports that require maximal physical output in short bursts are often followed up with rest periods (i.e. in between plays in American football, sprinting to bases in baseball, in between points in tennis, etc.)

Most other sports, such as basketball or soccer, require more aerobic endurance, or a slow to medium pace for extended periods of time, and strength and power are of less importance.

MMA, however, requires maximal output of physical energy including strength and power, anaerobic endurance, AND aerobic endurance, with virtually NO rest for five minutes, and only 1 minute rests in between rounds.

So how in the world do you train for ALL of these physical attributes effectively and efficiently in ONE MMA workout program?
MMA training workouts that harmoniously focus and develop all of these elements at the same time efficiently and effectively without overlapping, canceling out attributes or overtraining are difficult to create.
The sport of MMA is still relatively new, but it is becoming more and more of a known fact that skill alone won't crown you champion in the ring or cage.
The art and science of MMA strength training and MMA conditioning workouts still has a lot more evolving to do in the coming years.

However, there are some great resources and MMA training workouts that have been put together that are tested and proven by experienced MMA fighters and used as UFC workout programs and other professional MMA workouts.
I took the time to cut through all the clutter on the web and find out the most efficient and effective MMA training workouts and MMA strength training and conditioning routines whether you are training for a fight or competition, want to have the conditioning and body of an MMA fighter, want inside secrets of UFC training techniques and exercises, or you just want to be able to finally beat your older brother up for once. Combat Core is the ultimate resource for developing an elite level of strength and conditioning with a focus on the most important muscles of the body for developing power in mma: The Core.

In the main book, author Jim Smith, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, goes over the what, why, and how of core training for mma fighters.

Indeed a strong and conditioned core is arguably the secret to many of a mixed martial artists arsenal such as punching and kicking power, endurance and conditioning, fighting both for and against submission holds, and balance to name a few; and Combat Core is by far the ruler of them all when it comes to mastering core strength and conditioning.

So, if you are a mma fighter or coach looking for a mma strength and conditioning program but want to specialize on developing the core, this is it. Don't even waste any more time looking for a better program to compare it with, because everything you are looking for in core training is here.Over 140 core exercises including pictures and descriptions split into different "series" of workouts that train specific parts of the core, along with instructions on how to include them into the mma strength and conditioning programs they provide.

But Derek, Everybody's Situation is Different, How do I Know Which MMA Workout Program is Best for ME?

Great question.

If you are a fully dedicated MMA fighter or coach that wants to become the very best, I'm talking champion status, then I recommend getting these two programs together:

Both of these programs will practically contain EVERYTHING you will ever need in terms of strength and conditioning for MMA fighters outside of having a real MMA training coach beside you.

If you are a competitor in the grappler arts, such as wrestling, submission wrestling, or Brazilian Jujitsu, I would recommend:

If you train in MMA, whether you compete or not, and are looking for unique training programs and challenging exercises that include sandbags, kettle bells, sleds, thick ropes, resistance bands, etc. to increase your strength, power, and conditioning, I would recommend:

If you are a fan of MMA, fitness, or both, and want to develop the physique of an MMA fighter and a workout program without any interest in fighting or competing, then I would without question recommend:

For those of you who are just interested in MMA as a hobby and would like to learn and develop certain skills and attributes a little at a time…
